Shopfront glass replacement

A broken shopfront is a closed shop. We make safe the same day — boarded, or with a temporary glazed panel so you can keep trading — then replace with the correct toughened or laminated specification once the pane is made.

Why shopfront glass is a different job

Shopfront panes are large, heavy and always safety glass. A 2 × 2.4m toughened pane weighs around 120kg at 10mm and needs suction lifting gear and at least two fitters — it is not a one-man van job.

It is also always a critical location under Part K, and often needs to be laminated rather than toughened where public safety or security is a factor. Getting the specification wrong on a shopfront is not a cosmetic error.

Keeping the shop trading

Boarding a shopfront means shutting it. Where the unit needs to keep trading, we can fit a temporary glazed panel instead of ply — the shop stays open and visible while the permanent pane is manufactured.

For repeat vandalism or a high-risk location, laminated glass, an applied security film, or a roller shutter behind the glass are all worth pricing against the cost of another break-in.

Frequently asked

How fast can a shopfront be made safe?

Same day in most cases. Boarding is quickest; where the unit needs to keep trading we can fit a temporary glazed panel instead so the shop stays open while the permanent pane is manufactured.

How much does shopfront glass cost to replace?

Typically £280–£900 per pane depending on size, thickness and whether toughened or laminated is required. Very large panes and laminated security glass cost more.

Do shopfronts need laminated glass?

All shopfront glazing is a critical location and must be safety glass. Toughened is the minimum; laminated is normally the better choice where there is a security risk or public safety exposure, because it stays in the frame when broken.
