Double glazing repair cost

Almost every window fault is cheaper to repair than to replace. A misted unit is £75–£190. A handle is £45–£95. A lock is £80–£180. A whole new window is several hundred pounds — and usually unnecessary, because the frame is rarely the thing that failed.

What each fault actually costs

The table below is what these jobs cost, fitted, including the part. There is no call-out fee on a booked repair; emergency out-of-hours attendance carries a premium.

If someone quotes you a new window for a misted unit, a stiff handle or a dropped sash, get a second opinion. Those are all repairs.

When repair stops making sense

  • The frame has failedDistorted, corroded through, or so far out of square it will not seal.
  • No thermal breakA pre-1990s aluminium frame will run with condensation every winter no matter what glass you put in it. That is a frame problem and only a new frame solves it.
  • Multiple faults at onceThree failed units, two dropped sashes and a broken lock in the same window is a window at the end of its life.
  • You want better performanceIf the goal is a warmer house rather than a working window, a sealed-unit upgrade is usually the highest-return option — and it is still a repair, not a replacement.

Frequently asked

How much does it cost to fix misted double glazing?

£75–£190 per sealed unit, replaced, with the existing frame kept. That is typically a quarter to a third of the cost of a whole new window.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a window?

Repair, in almost every case where the frame is sound. A handle is £45–£95, a hinge £55–£110, a lock £80–£180 and a misted unit £75–£190. A replacement window starts at several hundred pounds and only makes sense when the frame itself has failed.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No call-out fee on a booked repair. Emergency and out-of-hours attendance carries a premium, which is quoted before we attend.
