Emergency boarding up
Ply-boarded, sheeted and secure. The cheapest part of the job.
Boarding up is not a repair, it is damage control — and it is the single most cost-effective thing you can do to a broken opening. An open window in an empty property invites a second visit from whoever caused the first one, and lets weather into a building for as long as it stays open.
What it involves
Loose and hanging glass removed and disposed of, the opening boarded in ply or sheeted where boarding is not practical, and fixings made good so the board holds without damaging the frame any further than it already is.
Commercial premises
A boarded shopfront still has to look deliberate rather than derelict, and a business that cannot secure its premises usually cannot open. Commercial make-safe is prioritised for that reason. Where the glass is a stock size we can sometimes glaze rather than board.
Then what
Boarding buys you time to do the glazing properly. Measurements are taken at the same visit where possible so the replacement can be ordered immediately.

How quickly can you board up?
Give us the postcode and we will give you a real window. We would rather tell you two hours and mean it than promise one and miss it.
Will boarding damage my frame?
Fixings go into the least damaging point available, and on a frame that is being replaced anyway it is moot. On a frame we are keeping we work to protect it.
Can you board a shopfront?
Yes, and commercial premises are prioritised because the business cannot trade.
Does insurance cover boarding up?
Usually, as part of the claim. Get a crime reference number if it was forced and photograph the damage first. We itemise make-safe separately so it is easy to claim.
Can you glaze it instead of boarding it?
If the glass is single glazed or a stock toughened size, sometimes yes. A made-to-measure sealed unit has to be manufactured first.
