Boarding up is make-safe work: broken glass cleared, the opening closed with structural ply or a steel screen, and the property left secure and weathertight. It is what happens first, before anyone talks about glass. Typically £90–£180 per opening.
A broken shopfront is a different job from a broken house window: the panes are large, they are almost always toughened or laminated, and a boarded shop is a shop that is closed. We board to make safe, then replace with the correct specification — toughened for most shopfronts, laminated where security or public safety demands it.
Where a unit must trade, we can fit a temporary glazed panel rather than ply so the shop stays open while the permanent glass is made.
| Job | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Emergency boarding up per opening | £90 – £180 |
| Same-day glass replacement, standard pane per pane | £120 – £280 |
| Shopfront glass replaced per pane | £280 – £900 |
Ranges include VAT and installation. Final price depends on size, spec, access and site condition — a survey gives you a fixed number.
Typically £90–£180 per opening, depending on size, access and time of day. Larger commercial openings and shopfronts cost more.
Structurally, for weeks. Practically, until the replacement glass is made — normally 24–72 hours for a made-to-order unit.
Emergency make-safe is normally covered under a standard buildings policy after a break-in or storm damage. Photograph the damage first, get a crime reference number if it was a break-in, and keep the itemised invoice.
