Panel choice is mostly about how much light you want and how much privacy. A full flat panel is solid and cheap. Half glazed with a panel below is the common back door. Fully glazed with a midrail throws the most light into a dark utility. Tongue and groove reads as more traditional if the rest of the house is period.

Which way should a back door open?
Outward is the norm on a back door because it does not eat kitchen or utility floor space, and outward-opening doors are harder to force. Inward is better if the door is very exposed to weather.
What is the difference between half glazed and fully glazed?
Half glazed has a solid panel below the glass, which survives dogs, bikes and mop buckets. Fully glazed with a midrail lets far more light into a dark room but shows every mark.
Can I get obscure glass?
Yes, in a range of patterns and privacy levels. Worth specifying on any door overlooked from a path or a neighbour's window.
Are uPVC doors secure enough for a back door?
With a decent multipoint lock and a snap-resistant cylinder, yes. Back doors get forced more often than front doors precisely because people spend less on them, so do not downgrade the cylinder to save twenty pounds.
Do I need a cill?
Only if there is not already a suitable sub-sill or threshold detail. Tell us what the opening looks like at the bottom and we will advise before you order.
