A rooflight delivers roughly three times the daylight of a vertical window of the same
area, because it faces the whole sky rather than one slice of it. On a flat-roofed extension it is
usually the single highest-value thing in the budget.
A lantern is the pitched, faceted one that stands proud of the roof. A flat rooflight is a single sealed pane sitting almost level. Lanterns throw light further into the room and look like a feature; flat units are cleaner from outside and better where planning is sensitive or the roof is overlooked. Both need a builder-formed upstand — they do not sit straight onto the deck.

Send your sizes
Structural opening width and height, and a photo if you have one. No survey, no appointment, no salesperson at your kitchen table.

A written price with the specification on it, and a real delivery date. If something in your measurements does not add up, we query it before anything is cut.

Roof lanterns — questions we get asked
Do I need an upstand?
Yes. The lantern or rooflight sits on a timber kerb built up off the roof deck, usually 150mm high, with the roof covering dressed up its sides. Building the kerb is your builder's job — we supply the unit to fit it.
What size upstand do I order to?
We work to the external dimensions of the finished kerb. Get that number from the builder once the kerb is actually built, not from the drawing — a 10mm error on a rooflight is not recoverable.
Lantern or flat rooflight?
Lantern for drama and for throwing light deep into a room. Flat for a cleaner look from outside, for overlooked roofs, and where planning is sensitive. A lantern generally collects less debris because rain runs off the pitch.
Do rooflights leak?
A correctly specified unit on a correctly built and dressed kerb does not. Nearly every leaking rooflight is a detailing failure at the kerb, not a failure of the glazing.
Is solar control glass worth it?
On a south or west-facing rooflight over a kitchen or living space, yes. Without it a large rooflight will overheat that room in summer and you will end up shading it.
