Crittall style — what it is
The Crittall-style options are the ones with the fine internal glazing bars that read as period steel windows. They are the profile conservation officers tend to accept where a chunky uPVC door would be refused, and they have become the default in extensions and garden rooms because the sightlines are so much finer.This page shows only the crittall style designs. Questions
Are aluminium doors cold?
Not modern ones. A polyamide thermal break splits the inner and outer halves of the frame so heat cannot conduct straight through. Pre-1990s aluminium had no break at all, which is why those old frames streamed with condensation and gave aluminium its reputation.
What is Crittall style?
Fine internal glazing bars in a slim dark frame, imitating the steel windows of the 1920s and 30s. It is a look, not a material — these are aluminium, not steel, so they do not rust and they meet current thermal standards.
Can I have a different colour inside and out?
Yes — dual colour is standard on aluminium. Anthracite outside and white or a warm grey inside is the common request. It adds a little to the lead time because the frame is coated twice.
